The Inbetweens
The Inbetweens emerged in the summer of 2002, from the roots of improvisation, curiosity, and like minds. They collectively weave melodies and vamps into intricate spiderwebs of rhythm, circling each other like predators seeking the same prey. Before they were the tweens, they lived in Boston, where they each spent time gigging and studying jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music with gurus such as Bob Moses, George Garzone, John Lockwood, and John Abercrombie. Since then Guitarist Mike Gamble, bassist Noah Jarrett, and drummer Conor Elmes have been performing bi-monthly as a trio in NYC, and touring the northeast, and the midwest . As a trio, they have put out two self-released albums, and are excited to release their third release, Quantum Cowboy, on Madison WI’s Layered Records.
“The Inbetweens force the guitar trio format to walk the plank and make it jump anyway.” — Deli magazine, Boston
“This exploratory trio belongs to a social network of musicians who filter jazz protocols through an indie-rock lens.” — Nate Chinen, New York Times
“They collectively weave melodies and vamps into intricate spiderwebs of rhythm.” — Tonic NYC
“The Inbetweens have a musical alter ego all their own… jazz crossover fusion for the new millennium… one the new breed of young guitarists who has the knowledge and skill to play in various techniques of jazz, rock, and other modes.” — Mark Turner, All About Jazz
“Gamble… plays crisply and leaves the harmonic spectrum wide open, comping only on the more tonal pieces, where its necessary. Listeners will also remember Gamble for his creative arsenal of sounds: the accelerating loop effects and the post-Hendrix sound-washes in particular.” — David Adler, All About Jazz – New York
